Children’s Mental Health Week – WC: 3rd Feb 2025
Next week, Springdale will be taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme this year is, 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ (in association with the film ‘Inside Out’).
The more we can understand about ourselves, the more prepared we are to express our emotions and take on life’s ups and downs. Being self-aware means getting to know and understand what we are good at, what we find difficult, our likes and dislikes, what makes us feel JOY and what may cause us SADNESS. It is also about understanding what makes us unique and our fears, hopes and dreams. As we build a sense of self, we grow in our ability to connect with others, as well as develop our skills and talents. It is with this basis we can form strong and healthy relationships, from early childhood right through to adulthood and are equipped to cope with the challenges that life brings our way.
Throughout the week, the children will take part in assemblies and class-based activities where they will be encouraged to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them. This will help them grow and develop resilience to cope with what life throws at them.
Year 3 and Year 4 Mental Health Workshops
On Tuesday morning, Year 3 and 4 will have the opportunity to take part in an emotional intelligence and yoga workshop run by our special guest, Alison Maxted. Alison has worked as a children’s yoga instructor and teacher for years and specialises in breathing and mindfulness techniques designed for children.
Mental Health Support at Home
The NHS ‘Every Mind Matters’ website gives simple and practical advice for a healthier mind – from how to deal with stress and anxiety, to boosting our mood or sleeping better. It can help to spot the signs of common mental health conditions and provides personalised practical self-care tips and information on further support. https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/every-mind-matters/
Children may need support to help manage their anxiety. Remember that a change in behaviour such as restlessness, being more irritable than usual or becoming quieter, may be underpinned by stress and anxiety. The Place2B website is an excellent tool, providing articles and short videos on how to support your children through a whole range of difficult situations. Place2Be: Parenting Smart: Articles
We were beyond thrilled with our recent Ofsted report. We are very proud of the children and to celebrate we had a lovely chilled afternoon celebrating the result. They thoroughly enjoyed their popcorn and downtime, which was rightly deserved. Here is a letter from our Governors to the children..
Dear Children,
Our recent visitors from Ofsted had such amazing things to say about all of you and Springdale First School. Thank you for helping us show our visitors how wonderful Springdale First School is. They told us how much you all respect each other and your learning. They talked about how proud you all are, and how hard you work, to try to achieve the best.
You have exceptional teachers who help you to learn and love seeing you all grow and develop. They are so proud of you all.
Whenever the governors are in school, we see you working hard, we see you behaving politely, practicing 'Ready, Respectful, Safe', and our visitors saw this too. Please keep this up, as it is really important in everything you do in your life.
We are all extremely proud of every one of you.
With best wishes,
The Governors,
Springdale First School
We were given the wonderful news this week that we managed to raise an amazing £413.98 for the Poppy Appeal. Once again, this was achievable thanks to our school community and their continued support.
