Broadstone Christmas Parade - Saturday 3rd December

This year we decided our theme would be ’50 Years and Still Shining’ to highlight Springdale’s 50th Anniversary.  Lots of hard work went into making our amazing costumes (thank you so much to all our helpers) and everyone looked very sparkly.  The weather was kind to us and on a lovely winter’s afternoon we helped to make Broadstone shine!  We all had such good fun and both children and adults enjoyed spotting Springdale’s very vocal supporters in the crowd.  We were so excited at the end of the Parade to discover we had won the Under 7’s Award and were the Overall Winners!  Councillor Dion (Poole’s Mayor) told us that our costumes made a real impact and the crowd’s response to us was fantastic.  Well done to all the children who took part and were a credit to our school.   Now...........what to do next year!!!!!

Dorset Schools Tumbling competition

On Sunday 20th November a team of five girls from year 4 entered the Dorset Schools Tumbling competition at Rossmore Leisure Centre.  Competition was tough with a very high standard from all sixteen teams in their age category. After a tense wait for all the teams to finish competing the girls found out they had made the finals taking the fifth place. They showed great maturity and all members of the team thought about their first round tumble and identified areas where they felt they could make improvements. Having presented to the judges they all performed again implementing their improvements. Final tumbles were excellent. The hard work paid off and Springdale finished second! An excellent achievement - well done girls and thank you to all the parents for the early start and for supporting on the day!

Peter Duncan Visits the school

On Monday 14th November, we received a special visit from Blue Peter's Peter Duncan. He talked to the children about his role in the forthcoming pantomime "Aladdin" at the Lighthouse Theatre, Poole.

Springdale goes the Extra Mile with Julia's House

Thank you so much for all of your support for the Extra Mile. We are absolutely delighted with the way that this great challenge was embraced and the brilliant outcome.

The grand total raised was: £6,209.78

The fantastic donation of over £3,000 from this total amount is enough for Julia’s House to provide 51 respite sessions to parents with a seriously ill child, meaning they will be able to get the practical and emotional support they need when caring for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

The amounts raised by each class were:

Wrens              - £673            Robins                       - £643

Puffins             - £394             Kingfishers                 - £662.50

Skylarks           - £763.50        Goldfinches                 - £667.08

Avocets           - £581.40         Lapwings                    - £520.70

Kestrels           - £566.60         Sparrowhawks             - £738

Skylarks were delighted to receive the trophy for the largest amount raised but I’m sure you will agree that all the classes should feel immensely proud of what they have raised.

KS1 Sports Day Summer 2016

Springdale Sports Days - Summer 2016

We were very lucky and the sun shone for Key stage 1 sports morning. The children enjoyed trying out the athletic events and obstacle course and there were some outstanding performances in the track events! At the end of the morning the classes raced against each other in the class relays which proved very competitive amongst children and staff alike!

At the end of the morning the results were as follows - 1st - Green 962, 2nd Blue - 864, 3rd Red 861 and 4th Yellow 711. These points were carried over to the KS 2 sports morning to determine the final standings.

We were less lucky with the weather for KS2 sport and consequently renamed the event Springdale Tough Mudder! Despite the clouds and a little bit of rain the children and spectators put on a great performance! Again the track and field events showed that we have some fantastic athletes here at Springdale! The morning finished with the eagerly anticipated mini marathon which was superbly run by all children! Well done to all competitors for your perseverance in very wet and muddy conditions!

The final results are in and are as follows:

1st - Blue - 2190

2nd - Red - 2059

3rd - Yellow - 2023

4th - Green - 1996

A big thank you to Broadstone Middle school and Lockyers Middle school for lending us some Junior leaders whose help was highly appreciated. A big thank you to everyone involved here at Springdale: staff, governors and children!
